Motivation to Exercise

We have all begun an exercise program, got all worked up about it, but then quit within a week or two. Although we begin very motivated, that enthusiasm fades rapidly. The key to holding to an exercise plan is finding a method to retain that original enthusiasm. Here are some ideas for becoming and staying motivated.

Get yourself a role model. A lot of women get motivated to diet and exercise by tacking up pictures of famous models or actresses. This is in fact a great way to remind yourself what your goals are and keep an image of them fresh in your head. Just be certain to choose a suitable role model and not somebody with unhealthy eating and exercise practices or an unattainable image.

Make your goals small. If you start off setting tough goals, you probably will not attain them and will then grow to be disheartened. The key is to set smaller, easy to attain goals and work your way up. Begin with “I will exercise three days this week”. When you get yourself into a routine, get yourself to work out harder and do extra during every session.

Reward yourself. Setting goals is fine means to get yourself keen on a exercise program. If you have difficulty keeping yourself going, try rewarding yourself when you get to a goal. Do not go with large rewards, just small rewards for reaching small goals. For instance, I can go to that movie if I work out three times this week. If you are exercising to lose weight, do not reward yourself with food.

Find a partner. Having someone to exercise with can assist in keeping your mind off the effort and keep you entertained. That means you are more liable to want to go exercise. Having a partner also makes it more difficult for you to miss your workout since you will be letting someone else down and they will be there to convince you to go even if you do not feel like it. If you cannot find a partner to go with you, you can always engage a personal trainer to support you.

Make it enjoyable. Exercise does not have to be dull and monotonous. If you do not like your exercise schedule, alter it. Keep looking until you find something you take pleasure in doing. This way, you will finish up looking forward to exercise instead of dreading it.

Mix it up. Even the most stimulating exercise can get tedious if you do it again and again every day. Find quite a few exercises you enjoy and rotate. Try an aerobics dvd Mondays, dance lesson Wednesdays, and swimming on Saturday. Whenever you discover yourself getting bored with a workout, replace it in your rotation for a while and start it again in a few months.

Do not take it too seriously. If you begin acting like exercise is hard work, it will turn out to be hard work. Make your work out a light, pleasurable, activity instead of a job you have to do. This will prevent you from developing a bad outlook and make you less liable to quit.
