Questions when looking for a personal fitness trainer

Here are some questions to consider when looking for a personal fitness trainer:

Where

  • Are you going to train at a gym, home or at the trainer’s private gym?
  • Is the location convenient to work or home or will it become a drag?
  • If its at a gym, do you feel comfortable there?

When

  • How many sessions a week can you commit to? A session is usually between 1 – 2 hours.

What

  • Do you know what you want to achieve? Some common reasons for training are weight loss, general fitness, sports training, and looking good.
  • What time frames are you expecting to acheive things? For example: lose 10kg in 3 months, fit size ten clothes in 1 year.

Who

  • Do you feel comfortable with the trainer?
  • Do they seem to understand you?
  • Does he/she listen to what you have to say?
  • Is the personal fitness trainer good at explaining things simply?
  • Are they experienced in type of assistance you need? Ie. Weight loss, diet, sports.
  • What qualifications do they have as a personal fitness trainer?

How (much)

  • Personal fitness trainers are generally expensive for many people. You need to work out how many sessions you can afford per week or month. How much you want to spend will depend on your disposable income and how important your goals are.
